Wooden Shields

A wooden shield reads as more formal than acrylic, which is why it is what gets ordered for retirements, long-service awards, inaugurations and anything being presented to someone senior. The grain and weight do most of the work.

How they are built

A shaped solid wood or Lasani back carries either an engraved brass or metal plate, a UV-printed acrylic front panel, or laser engraving directly into the wood. Brass on wood is the most traditional combination and the one most people picture when they think of an award shield. Engraving straight into the wood gives a cleaner, more modern look.

Sizes and prices

Standard shields are 5x7 and 6x8 inches from Rs 2,000. Larger UV-printed shields go to 12x8 inches, and premium pieces — gold-plated shields supplied in a wooden presentation box, crystal-and-wood combinations, wooden trophy shields with gift boxes — run to Rs 12,500.

Presentation boxes

If the award is being handed over at a formal event, ask about the presentation box. A shield that comes out of a box lands differently from one carried in a shopping bag, and it survives the journey home intact.
